How to be a successful team leader These are the top ten tips.
Introduction
You were promoted to team leader and are excited about your new position. This is your first time leading a team. Congratulations on your first step in a leadership role. It’s exciting, but I can understand your concerns and worries about the new role, especially how it will be a success.
Who is a leader in your organization?
A leader is someone who “inspires a group of people to achieve a goal.”
Leadership is the art of motivating others to work towards a common goal.
Leadership is about inspiring people and engaging the team through effective communication.
To make things even easier, the leader is responsible for all actions taken by the team. It doesn’t have to be original ideas that are being implemented by the leader. They can also be borrowed. However, a leader is the one who discusses with the team the ideas and then implements them.
How to lead a team?
What is the first step to becoming a great team leader? Let’s take a look at the first secret to success. You might have been more concerned about your career and your success as a team member, but to be a great leader and team member, you need to focus more on your team’s success.
Top 3 Qualities of a Great Team Leader:
1. Optimistic:
Winston Churchill rightly stated, “A pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist looks for the opportunity in each difficulty.”
An optimistic leader will find a way to be positive, even in difficult situations. Even if the situation is dire or the plan is not working, an optimist leader will never give up. This quality is vital for leaders as it will encourage the team to work together towards a common goal.
2. Competence and warmth:
It is also important that the leader be current and competitive. Stephen Richards Covey mentions the exact same thing in his book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Persons” as one of the 8 habits that are “Sharpen the Saw”.
Covey states that one must continue to educate the conscience to grow and develop further.
Leaders can learn from the work and build a professional network. The team respects knowledgeable leaders highly.
Leaders should be approachable and kind while gaining knowledge. A team is a group that includes people with different skills. One member of the team might not be able communicate fluently with others or may be uncomfortable speaking in front of others. Leaders can find hidden talents by being kind to their team members.
3. Planning and Prioritization
A leader cannot lead the team and achieve the best results if he or she doesn’t plan properly. It is important to plan before you start thinking about the next steps. This will help you become a great leader. It is common to not give enough time for planning in this fast-paced technology world. Planning is not the best thing. It can have a negative impact on your schedule, quality, and cost. It could also affect the credibility of the management team.
Stephen Covey states, “The key is not to prioritize the things on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”
Break down the larger goals into smaller goals, and prioritize them so that it’s achievable. It can be discussed with the team, and adjusted if necessary. Leaders must manage every day. True leaders are always looking for ways to improve their time management and organizational skills.
